Month 2 Round up – markbell.me.uk

Today I bring to you the report for my second month for my blog.  It will be a brief report, but you’ll get everything you need from it.

The past month has been pretty hectic, I’ve tried to write daily, and that has gone well, except for the past few days – I’ve had a lot of stuff to do elsewhere.  Anyway, things have been progressing really well, and I’m quite pleased.  Onward and upward!

Alexa Rank

At the end of my first month my Alexa rank had dropped to a little under 3.5 million.  This month has seen it drop even more, albeit not by the same insane amount.  Alexa has also ranked me for a few more countries.  At the minute, my rank is 606,555.  I’m ranked for,

  • Nigeria (4,555)
  • Australia (15,251)
  • India (133,402)
  • Japan (141,743)
  • USA (225,500)

Comments

Always a good measure of how you are writing, and engaging with readers, I have seen my number of comments sky rocket.  Last month I had 45, of which at least half would have been mine.  But hey, it’s good practise to talk to people!  This month I have a total of 230 approved comments – just under 200 in one month.  I say approved, because I’ve a number of comments sitting in spam – will have to file them under “trash” soon.  I think this is pretty good going.  Some of my articles have received awesome comments – which is great, I am getting a feel for what my readers like, and what is likely to get some feedback.  If you’re interested in my most popular posts, check them out,

Posts

This month I have a total of posted 29 new articles (including this one).  This is just about 1 per day, which worked great for a while because I was pre-scheduling my posts.  This is great for freeing up time for other things.  I highly recommend you do this too.

Analytics

Anyone who likes some statistics will love this section – I’m a numbers person, so here they are *blushes*

  • 696 Visits
  • 351 Unique Visitors
  • 1,979 Page Views
  • 2.84 Average Page Views
  • 5min Average Time on Site
  • 54.74% Bounce Rate
  • 45.26% New Visitors

I’m averaging about 22 visitors per day.  In terms of visitor locations, I have finally conquered South America.  My visitors come from lots of different countries across the world – 34 in fact.  The most popular countries are,

  • United Kingdom
  • USA
  • India
  • Australia
  • Canada

Advertising

Regular visitors to my site will have noticed that my side bar has seen a lot of action – no giggling please, Alex!  I have also removed AdSense from this site, as the adverts where quite diverse and often not very useful.  I’ll maybe come back to them.  For now, I have some affiliation links.  I moved them down to promote my commenters and content slightly more.  I’ve not made anything, which I’m cool with – it’s not about the money.

What’s Next?

This past month has been pretty hectic.  I’ve done a lot more networking on Twitter and at Blog Engage.  These are great tools for attracting readers.  I’m starting to build up some good contacts too which have offered me tons of great advice.  Over the next while, more will be changing here.  I’ve been considering branding the site to make it more memorable, and trying to streamline it to a particular problem.  So stay tuned, I’ll try and keep you up to date.  I also changed host through the month, you can find out why in a later post.  I’ve also been trying to set a few “other things” up away from the site, but still related to blogging.  I’ll say no more – a little anticipation is always good.

  • Nice to see how you’re continuing to improve and gain exposure. Always good to hear success stories in the blogging world as I myself am starting to notice increases in traffic.

I wish I had some more time for blogging but my day job is all too time consuming I may have to try to use the scheduling post thing more often as it will definitely free up more time for me to do other things.

Good-luck in your continued endeavors into the blogosphere I hope we can both find our place there.

  • Great work, Mark!

I’m very pleased to see you progressing in your online journey! You are looking very good!

    Good luck! :D

    • Hey Dev,
Cheers for the comment, it’s great to get positive feedback from those ahead of me. I’ll have to drop by your place, it’s been too long!

  • You’re doing great Mark! This is a prime example of what you can accomplish with hard work. That 600 is going to be 6,000 in no time my friend :)

    • Here’s hoping! Lots of hard work ahead – it will be worth it though! I’ll have to check out your report for July :)

  • As a new blogger its always good to hear other peoples experiences, i like that you give exact figures as it helps me put mine into perspective, even though I’m still excited at being 4 away from 200 page views! i’ve also picked up some tips and am interested to read your alexa rank post next. Thanks.

    • Hey Louise,
I’m really pleased that you’ve enjoyed the article. I’m on a bit of a low traffic-wise here at the moment as I’m focusing my work elsewhere on side projects – which of course I’ll write about in due course :-)

      Good luck with your work!
