Why I changed webhost from 1&1 to Host Gator

I recently wrote an article promoting the popular web hosting company 1and1, and it may seem a little silly given only a few days later I changed host.  I was never dissatisfied with the service I received from 1and1.  You’re probably wondering why I left?  They had an awesome commission set up, which I never used to good effect.  That wasn’t why I left.

I’m a firm believer in getting value for money.  I recently had a friend approach me for advice on what web host he should use for his company.  He had some requirements which were quite reasonable.  I recommended 1and1 – I was a happy customer, so why wouldn’t I?  He went away and thought about it, and did some research of his own, and he came back to me.  He said he could get better contracts elsewhere.  Fair enough, 1and1 wasn’t for everyone.

Month 2 Round up – markbell.me.uk

Today I bring to you the report for my second month for my blog.  It will be a brief report, but you’ll get everything you need from it.

The past month has been pretty hectic, I’ve tried to write daily, and that has gone well, except for the past few days – I’ve had a lot of stuff to do elsewhere.  Anyway, things have been progressing really well, and I’m quite pleased.  Onward and upward!

Follow the Twitter-Brick road

I’ve been using Twitter for a while to network with other bloggers, as well as using it as an excellent tool for marketing my blog.  I’ve built up a few followers, 206, which is still rising.  So it’s all good.  Every Friday on Twitter, it is common to share some of your top followings with your followers.  It’s aptly named “follow friday“.  Here are the users I have advertised this week, sharing some link love!

The Alexa Rank – What’s the big deal?

Anyone worth their weight as a webmaster will, at some point, wonder, “how busy is my website?”.  This sort of question can be answered when you look at any of your site statistics, for example your log files, or the more popular, Google Analytics.  These tools are awesome for gauging what parts of your site are receiving great traffic and which are not.  You can also see what pages are popular landing pages, and which ones your visitors leave from.  Brilliant, however, it doesn’t tell you how popular your site actually is.

What do people like about your site?

Over the past month or so, I have been receiving some really good traffic.  It’s not massive amounts, but I’m pleased with what I have achieved so far.  Anyway, as a newbie blogger, I often am left wondering, what do people like about my site?  It seems like a natural question to ask that can be answered relatively easily.  The common answer will be to draw your answers from the comments which are left.  I’ve been fortunate to have built up quite a few comments.  Many other bloggers have many more comments.  But, most of the comments are very specific to one article.  What else do they like?

Does Success scare you?

I recently wrote an article about why people let their fear of failure hold them back from succeeding.  However, with everything in life, there are always more than one view point.  When you think of reasons why you would not succeed, have you ever wondered if succeeding is actually what scares you?  I’ve had a think about this, and it stands to good reason to be scared of success.  Still confused?
