Good Webhost Review – Choose 1 and 1

Want a web host with great service and reliability?  Want assurances that your site will be online?  Want a feature rich host which can provide you with the means to catering for your readers?  Look no further.  1 and 1, the web host I use to host this site.  It is all of the above – and more.  You can also help do your bit for the environment as 1 and 1 relies solely upon renewable energy sources to power their servers.

What does 1 and 1 offer?

As the world’s biggest and fastest growing web host, 1 and 1 offers many different services.  1 and 1 offers hosting opportunities for your websites.  Whether they are small personal sites containing a few pages and images, they offer affordable hosting packages starting at £2.49 ($3.88 USD).  If you are after something much larger, hosting packages are offered up to Professional level.  Maybe it’s something else you need?  Your own web server, perhaps?

If site hosting isn’t for you, 1 and 1 offer email and domain packages.  There are packages which include Microsoft Exchange and MailXChange.

Each of the packages offer some fantastic features.  Many of them are useful to even the newest web masters.  There are plenty of opportunities to enhance your package by purchasing bolt-ons.  A common one is adding a shopping cart.

Why did I go with 1 and 1?

When I started out on the internet, I was a regular at a popular Formula 1 message board.  I was teaching myself PHP and MySQL on the side, becoming quite competent with programming.  Before I knew it, I was providing help running the message board doing some of the techie stuff.  I ended up with full admin access on the site, and got to use the 1and1 host.  It was a solid reliable host, with no problems.  I figured I’d use it for my own benefits, so I ordered a package.

What package did I go with?

I wanted to eventually have a popular site, which would need database interaction, and plenty of space for files, etc.  I also wanted the ability to run a few files, and have Shell access for backing up my database – rather than using pretty GUI’s on web pages that run slow.  At the time it was maybe a little overkill – but you can’t really criticise ambition!

My package has all the bells and whistles.  Domain management, email management, plenty of website technologies include PHP and MySQL, basic SEO tools, marketing tools, all backed up with some cool security features.

What are your favourite features?

For me I wanted some simple things.  A priority was backups.  Even on the most basic package, 1 and 1 perform daily backups of their systems.  I wanted the PHP and MySQL integration.  I also liked many of the features such as the basic shopping cart.  I saw them as a good opportunity to expand, eventually upgrading to higher quality software – possibly the pro versions available at 1 and 1.

1 and 1 affiliate scheme

Like many other webhosts, 1 and 1, also offer an affiliate scheme.  You don’t actually have to be a 1 and 1 customer to benefit either.  If you are a member of Commission Junction, Trade Doubles or Affilinet, you can benefit.  I use the commission scheme too.  The links to 1 and 1 on my site all feature the affiliate link.

What’s particularly appealing about the scheme is the super high commission.  In a single transaction, you can earn up to £300 ($470 USD).  Don’t believe me?  Check out the 1and1 commision table.
